The catch pan is designed to prevent fluids from getting under the tires in case of catastrophic engine, transmission, or transfer case failure.
Catch pans are now required by most racing sanctions. The pan has been tested/proven on the shop car, catching/containing water dumped from a torched head at 150mph. Zero water under tires in shutdown. The pan has been 180+mph on a customers car.
